In collaboration with the LPO* for the past five years, Marqueyssac dedicates an entire day to birds every autumn.
As part of the national LPO Refuges programme, the League for the Protection of Birds and Biodiversity supports the Marqueyssac Gardens in a voluntary initiative to preserve local biodiversity.
This label, obtained in autumn 2020 and currently being renewed, promotes areas that are favourable to wild fauna and flora, while raising public awareness of nature.
Throughout this day, we celebrate this commitment with concrete actions.

On Sunday 25 October 2026, the Gardens of Marqueyssac in Vézac, near Sarlat, will host a full day dedicated to birds and biodiversity. Talks, nest box workshops, children’s activities, a nature trail and exhibitions will offer visitors an enjoyable opportunity to discover wildlife while exploring the gardens as a family.
The next Bird Day will take place on Sunday 25 October 2026 at the Gardens of Marqueyssac, in the heart of the Périgord Noir. Organised in partnership with the French bird protection charity Ligue pour la Protection des Oiseaux, the event aims to raise awareness among children and adults of the importance of protecting birds and local biodiversity.
Throughout the day, visitors can take part in a nest box building workshop, follow a trail about birds visiting garden feeders and learn how to identify different species by their calls, shapes, nests, beaks and feeding habits. At 2 pm, the “Birds in Our Gardens” activity will also help participants recognise the species commonly found near their homes.
Yes. A nest box building workshop will be available throughout Bird Day. Using prepared kits, participants can make their own nest box, providing birds with a safe shelter and a suitable place to raise their young in spring.
During the “Make Nature at Home in Your Garden” sessions, held at 11 am and 3.30 pm, visitors will receive practical advice on welcoming wildlife into their gardens. Topics will include helping hedgehogs to hibernate, reusing branches and garden cuttings, avoiding hazards for animals, and preserving trees and hedges. Two exhibitions devoted to wildlife-friendly gardens and important habitats for biodiversity will complement these activities.
